New metro station for Dubai Internet City

The announcement was made in recognition of DIC’s significant contribution to Dubai’s knowledge economy and its phenomenal success as one of the world’s largest technology free zones.
Designed on the ‘Water’ theme, the Dubai Internet City Station is located between the Sharaf DG and Nakeel Metro Stations. It will have a minimum of 5 retail outlets in addition to more facilities and services that are available in other metro stations.
Feeder bus services named (F32A) will operate from the station to the DIC Community and other destinations in the neighborhood including Marina, Dubai Media City and Dubai Knowledge Village.
Malek Al Malek, managing director of Tecom Investments’ newly announced ICT Cluster, said: “DIC is home to over 25,000 professionals who commute daily from across Dubai and other emirates in the UAE. A landmark destination in the UAE and the first among the Tecom Investments free zones, we feel honoured that one of the Dubai metro stations is to be named after Dubai Internet City.”
“DIC is committed to remain a pioneer in spearheading the latest innovation and development in the region. To have the station named after Dubai Internet City is one of the acknowledgements of our achievements,” he remarked.
Abdnan Al Hamadi, acting CEO of RTA’s Rail Agency, said: “The rail network in Dubai is designed for the emirate to stay ahead of other cities in urban development while providing an effective link with other modes of public transport, enabling people to conveniently transit from various venues.”

Dubai Internet City (DIC) (Arabic: مدينة دبي للإنترنت‎) is an information technology park created by the government of Dubai as a free economic zone and a strategic base for companies targeting regional emerging markets. The economic rules of DIC allow companies to avail themselves of a number of ownership, taxation and custom related benefits which are guaranteed by law for a period of 50 years^{[citation needed]}. One model of operation includes 100% foreign ownership, similar to those prevailing in other designated economic zones in the United Arab Emirates^{[citation needed]}. Using a prepaid telephone card bought from a shop you can connect to the Internet with your pc. Dial 128 followed by the 14 digit card number on your pre paid card. Charge is 15 fils per minute. All you need is a PC, the cable, the card and a phone socket.

iPhone app: Insomnia Keeps your WIFI / Internet connection alive!

Insomnia is an iPhone native application that, when enabled, will prevent the iPhone from sleeping, thus overriding its default behaviour. This allows background applications to continue to run and WiFi to work long after the screen has been switched off (The iPhone’s default behaviour is to sleep 30 seconds after the screen has gone off, when not docked and charging that is).
Insomnia is useful if you are running a logging application that you would want to keep working while your phone is locked and the display is off. If you are using an IM or IRC client that you wish to stay connected to receive messages while the screen is off.
I’ve tried it on both EDGE and WiFi and it works great. It never logged me out of MobileChat (I’m using AIM) while my iPhone is in sleep mode! The developer states that it should be in Installer soon for those who doesn’t want to manually install.

Best for the surreal: Mall of the Emirates
Pros: Ski and Shop under one roof in the desert! After indulging in a full morning of shopping at Harvey Nichols, Ski Dubai can be found down the slopes with all equipment included in the price.
Best for the kids: Ibn Battuta
Pros: Adventure-inspired mall and theme park rolled into one. Members of the staff roam the place in six theme courts: Andalusian, Chinese, Egyptian, Indian, Persian,and Tunisian. They are all dressed in cartoon costumes lifting the spirits of children. Interactive displays of history can be viewed. Here, you can find UAE’s lone IMAX cinema.
Best for chain store galore: Deira City Centre
Pros: It has once worn the crown as Dubai’s shopping jewel. The Deira City Centre is trying to win back its crown with the emerging shopping centres around. Deira City Centre brings it on with the introduction of new brands to its portfolio of stores including Club Monaco, New Look, H&M, Bebe, and Banana republic making it a never-say-die fighter.
Cons: Taxi queues have been legendary reminding teens to lure into nightclubs.
Best bargains for your money: Lamcy Plaza.
Pros: If you are looking for bargains, this is the perfect shopping destination. Practical buys can be found in Fashion factory and a Japanese discount store, Daiso, is also around. Taste the inexpensive curry at Thai Express too.
Cons: Lamcy has not kept up with bright lights and come-on glasses. The interior looks old and a tacky Tower Bridge mock-up matched with a fake waterfall makes it a little off.
