Background
He is the son of former Emir (Ruler) of Dubai Sheikh Saeed bin Maktoum Al Maktoum, the brother of former Ruler of Dubai Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum and the uncle of the current Ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. He is a graduate of the University of Denver.[citation needed]He embarked on his journey in the aviation industry in 1985 when he was appointed President of DCA. Emirates the national carrier was launched at the same time and he was appointed Chairman.
Sheikh Ahmed also holds several other portfolios with the Government of Dubai. He is Deputy Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, which formulates policies and strategies for the Emirate of Dubai.
Sheikh Ahmed is Member of the Board of the Dubai Council for Economic Affairs; Vice-Chairman of the Dubai World Trade Centre; Board Member the Dubai Corporation for Government Investment, Chairman Supreme Committee – Dubai Shopping Festival Committee and Dubai Summer Surprises, and Board Member – General Civil Aviation Authority of UAE. He is the Chairman of:

Ali Mubarak Al Soori has been with Emirates since it operated out of a humble HQ in the desert and has been a key figure in building the sprawling and diverse network of state-of-the-art buildings which now make up the Emirates Group empire.
Mr Al Soori has overseen the construction of many of the buildings in the Group’s multi-billion dollar property portfolio, including the Emirates Engineering Centre, the Harbour Hotel and Residence, Emirates’ Crew Training Centre, Emirates Group Headquarters and 7he Sevens sports complex.
In addition, he supervises the Group’s major ventures overseas, which include the Wolgan Valley Resort & Spa in Australia’s Blue Mountains and at the Cap Ternay Resort & Spa on the island of Mahe in the Seychelles.
He is responsible for ensuring all projects are executed on time and within budget, which involves undertaking feasibility studies, approving budgets and timeframes, and appointing top consultants and specialists, as well as negotiating contracts.
He joined Emirates in 1986 as manager of the Chairman’s Office and rose through the ranks to become Senior Vice President, Chairman's Office & Facilities Management in 2003.
He was promoted to his current position in 2008 after spending two years as Divisional Senior Vice President - Chairman's Office, Facilities/Project Management and Non-Aircraft Purchasing & Logistics.
